CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS
The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in presenting the
MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION
to
U. S. NAVAL COMMUNICATION STATION, GUAM, MARIANA ISLANDS
for service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
For meritorious service from 1 January 1968 to 31 December 1969
in providing outstanding communication service to Commander, United
States SEVENTH Fleet; units of the SEVENTH Fleet engaged in operations
against enemy forces in the Republic of Vietnam; units of Submarine
Squadron FIFTEEN and Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron THREE; and
numerous special technical communications projects. Although operat-
ing under extremely heavy message traffic loads and manned well-below
authorized personnel allowances, U.S. Naval Communications Station,
Guam always responded to the challenge of new and additional commit-
ments with enthusiasm, professionalism, and highly competent technical
expertise. The station's success in meeting heavy operational communi-
cations requirements while simultaneously expanding and modernizing its
communications plant was well-recognized and earned high praise for its
officers and men. The outstanding performance of the personnel of U.S.
Naval Communications Station, Guam in providing quality Command and
Control communications in the Western Pacific throughout this period
reflected credit upon themselves and their command, and was in keeping
with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
For the Secretary
J. L. Holloway III
Admiral, United States Navy
